Honoured for services to Black maternal health and social enterprise.
About Sandra Igwe MBE
Built from lived experience. Leading with purpose.
Sandra Igwe MBE is a Black maternal health leader, founder, author and speaker helping to reshape how the UK sees, supports and listens to Black mothers.

A life’s work
From being unheard to building a movement.
Sandra’s work began with a deeply personal truth: maternity care does not work equally for everyone. After experiencing postnatal depression and feeling dismissed within maternity services, she began creating the support, information and community she could not find.
That determination became The Motherhood Group, a social enterprise that has grown from a local community of mothers into a nationally recognised Black maternal-health organisation. Today its work spans peer support, counselling, cultural-competency training, research, national campaigns, policy influence and digital innovation.
As a British-Nigerian mother of three, Sandra brings lived experience and strategic leadership together. She works with mothers, NHS teams, policy leaders, universities, charities, businesses and the media to make sure Black mothers’ voices shape the decisions that affect them.
